This is the age old question, isn't it? Did Jesus exist or was he simply a fictional character invented by Christians? If you look at religious websites, it will relay a bunch of "proof" that supports the claim that Jesus was a real person. If you were to look at a non-religious or atheistic affiliated website for information on the same topic, it will showcase "proof" that suggest that Jesus was not a real person. That said, which is true? I'm not a religious person and I feel that I am not well-versed enough on the topic to provide any input, however, this video reminded me of something you had mentioned in your post about the wheel of the year: the idea that new religions appropriate aspects of the old religion in an effort to gain followers. Like it stated in the video, there were many, many saviors from different parts of the world who adhered to the characteristics that are commonly attributed and considered to be unique to Jesus. A number of these similar figures from other cultures existed far before Jesus did, such as the Egyptian deity Horus, the Persian god Mithra, and the Indian deity Krishna. This video highly suggests that Christianity's story of Jesus was a work inspired by the deities and gods of other religions.
Wow! I didn't realize that there were so many Jesus parallels throughout history and across different civilizations. Also, the astrological explanation behind the resurrection using the solstice as an example blew my mind!
