I have always found the idea of alchemy to be fascinating since it combines ideas of science and magic! The fact that alchemical experiments and discoveries were forced to be kept secret (in part due to threats of condemnation and persecution) is also intriguing! Alchemy is considered by many to be a predecessor to chemistry, even though it is now widely considered to be a pseudoscience.
